Stamp of Approval

Above is a picture of us holding our passports. To most, it may not seem very significant, but to us, it represents a huge answer to prayer. Inside our passports is our residency visa stamp for Portugal. Again, this might not appear like a big deal to the average person, but for us, it’s incredibly meaningful. Portuguese immigration is currently backed up due to a large number of people wanting to relocate there. Initially, we were told we’d likely get our passports back just a week before moving—or even possibly after we had already arrived in Portugal.

While this wouldn’t prevent us from moving, it would create a considerable inconvenience, as we’d have to either send our passports back to be stamped or possibly even return to get them stamped in person. Not an insurmountable issue, but definitely a hassle. Miraculously, we received our approval and stamps three weeks ahead of schedule! When we told our visa assistance agency, they were dumbfounded and called it “a true miracle.” To us, it felt like receiving two stamps that day: one from Portugal and another from God—a stamp of approval affirming this journey is truly in His will for us.

Details about our Visa process and what’s next.

We’re often asked, “Why Portugal?” This question can be difficult to answer because, honestly, it comes down to the simple truth that this is where God wants us to be. Usually people understandably want more details about how God showed this to us. Once we knew that missions were our next step, we began praying specifically for clarity on where to go. We researched various countries, and each time, God seemed to close the door. However, when we heard about Portugal and began researching, it felt as if doors continued to open. We were encouraged to visit, and it was during that visit that God truly confirmed this as His will for us. There’s no place on earth that doesn’t need someone to share the love of Jesus, but we wanted to be exactly where God wanted us to be and where we would best fit. Portugal is that place for us.

Our first Visit with the Booths in 2021

Our deputation process—finding the partners God has for us to support our journey financially—has been an amazing experience. I could write countless articles on the blessings and miracles God has shown us during this time. When I shared these stories with David Booth, the missionary God used to guide us toward Portugal, he encouraged us to remember these miracles as reminders of God’s stamp of approval on this mission. He warned that as we face challenges in Portugal, we may begin to question this direction, but looking back on God’s confirmations will strengthen us.

For 23 years, we’ve served in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, under Pastor Raymond Wicks. God has been so good to us through Pastor Wicks’s leadership. A phrase Pastor Wicks often shares is, “Don’t undo in doubt what you started by faith.” This journey to Portugal has truly been one of faith, and we’re excited to see what God will do in the years ahead. He has always been so good to us, and we just want to serve Him by loving the people of Portugal.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and shown their love during this time. We know that God’s goodness is a direct result of your prayers!
